2 Cops killed in late night hit-and -run in capital
An errant cab driver mowed down two cops and injured another in a bid to escape picket checking at a barricade in Kalindi Kunj area of southeast Delhi early Sunday.
The cops had flagged down a speeding cab at a police picket but the driver stepped on the gas instead and rammed into the barricade. He then went on to hit the policemen who tried to stop him.
The rogue driver was allegedly drunk and even dragged the policemen for about 100 metres after hitting them. He was chased and nabbed by other cops some distance away from the spot.
The cabbie has been identified as Hemant from Ghaziabad. He was driving an Eeco car and has been arrested under sections of causing death due to negligence (304A IPC) and rash driving (279 IPC).
The two slain cops were posted at Jaitpur police station. They have been identified as ASI Nagender and constable Prahlad. The injured cop head constable Kaptaan was admitted at Apollo hospital.
