00:00In 2007, a guy from KSSB comes to us.
00:06He has made a lot of runs.
00:08I think he had made 50 runs before playing in the U-16s.
00:16So we started working for him day and night.
00:22The biggest thing is that he is fearless.
00:24Okay?
00:24He is fearless.
00:25Yes.
00:26He is so young.
00:27He can hit the ball beautifully.
00:29It's not just his hard work.
00:30His roots are very different.
00:32Namaskar! You are watching One India.
00:34I am Abhinav Sharma.
00:35A few days ago, when the Indian cricket team won the T20 World Cup,
00:42there was an interesting incident.
00:44When Shivam Dubey went to meet PM Modi,
00:48he asked him to come to Bhaduriwala.
00:50The people of Bhaduriwala were shocked to hear this.
00:55How does the PM know that I am from Bhaduriwala?
00:57Even you may not know where Bhaduriwala is.
01:02Let me tell you that Bhaduriwala is a small district of Purvanchal.
01:07Earlier, it used to be a part of Mirzapur.
01:09Later, it was cut and divided into Mirzapur and Bhaduriwala.
01:13Even if people want to go to Bhaduriwala,
01:15Bhaduriwala is known for its carpet industry.
01:19But Bhaduriwala is known for two more reasons.
01:22One is Shivam Dubey and the other is his teammate, Yashaswi Jaiswal.
01:28He has become the opener of the test team of the Indian cricket team.
01:32We can see that he is playing for the Indian team in the Kanpur test.
01:36And here in Kanpur, we have his childhood coach, Arif Hussain.
01:41And everyone knows the story of how he trained with Jawahar Singh.
01:48Everyone knows the story of Azad Maidan.
01:50But let's go back in time and ask what Yashaswi Jaiswal was before Azad Maidan.
01:57Where did Arif and his academy get the idea to carve this diamond?
02:04Because when you find a diamond, it is not a diamond.
02:07You have to carve it.
02:08And to carve it, you need a pair of eyes, which Arif Hussain had.
02:13And Yashaswi Jaiswal comes from such an area where cricket is not so popular.
02:19People have to believe that if Yashaswi Jaiswal was not playing from Mumbai,
02:26no one would have recognized him.
02:28Because there is no lack of talent in this country.
02:30But getting opportunities is a big thing.
02:34And he got those opportunities after going to Mumbai.
02:37But before that, Arif and his team had a solid foundation.
02:43So, Arif, first of all, thank you for joining us.
02:48You are welcome.
02:49The first question is, when did you spot Yashaswi Jaiswal?
02:57And from that small area where cricket is not so popular.
03:03It is a crazy thing.
03:04But if we talk about infrastructure,
03:06because I myself come from Mirzapur.
03:08And I also know what the state is like in Purvanchal.
03:10What are the conditions like for cricket and sports infrastructure.
03:14When Yashaswi Jaiswal was spreading his wings.
03:18Cricket was played in Bhadoi.
03:21But there was no academy.
03:24So, I came to cricket in 1904.
03:28I got involved.
03:30I started playing cricket in 2001.
03:35In 2001, I asked myself a question.
03:39Arif, there are many kids who are more talented than me.
03:43But they can't play cricket.
03:45So, what should be the way for them to play cricket?
03:50So, I heard about an academy.
03:52Cricket Academy.
03:55So, I started a small cricket academy.
04:00It is in Sevasarai Mitra College.
04:02It was in 2001.
04:03So, I selected a place for net practice.
04:07And I brought the net.
04:09The story behind it is that
04:11I sold some Liptus trees from my house.
04:16After that, I arranged the nets.
04:19And then I came to Junod.
04:20So, after going for 2-3 days,
04:23I realized that the ball was not working properly.
04:26I needed a new ball.
04:28I didn't have a budget.
04:30So, I brought a ball from the ASG club for the first time.
04:33So, the academy kept on running.
04:38I started meeting people.
04:42I used to tell them about my dream.
04:45I wanted an academy in Bhadoi.
04:46And I wanted to play cricket in India.
04:48I used to tell people about it.
04:49There are many witnesses.
04:50I met a lot of people.
04:53They all are taking names.
04:56It was not hard for me.
04:58I had to work hard.
05:00So, I asked myself
05:02how else can talented kids play cricket.
05:05So, I started the academy.
05:07I couldn't find time to practice.
05:11I had a dream.
05:13I wanted to learn how to play cricket.
05:15So, we worked day and night for it.
05:19In 2004, we started in a good way. We got a big ground.
05:29There was an academy going on in 2007.
05:33Around that time, a boy comes to the academy.
05:37He is an SSV.
05:39He got admission and started practicing.
05:43Before going for years, when I looked at him,
05:49I saw a different shine.
05:51The biggest thing is that he was fearless.
05:55At such a young age, he was able to hit the ball very well.
06:00He was able to face all the bowlers of my academy at a very young age.
06:06Looking at all these things, I felt that he is a different talent.
06:11Something can be done on him.
06:13There are trials in the U.P.
06:16Under-14 trials.
06:18I went to Green Park, Kanpur.
06:20I tried till the final round.
06:22If I didn't get selected, I think for the first time in the final,
06:26some kid went to my academy till the final round.
06:29I remember that.
06:31We were happy that someone would play.
06:35Someone from the U.P. is going to play.
06:37What year was this?
06:39It was after 2010.
06:41So, what happens is that he gets eliminated in the final round.
06:46We got disappointed when we got to know about it.
06:51We talked to the management.
06:53We decided to take him to Mumbai.
06:55We had heard about Mumbai.
06:57Cricket is played there.
06:59Kids get a chance.
07:01Talent gets a chance.
07:03We knew about it.
07:05He was sent to Mumbai in 2010.
07:10My academy is in Azad Maidan.
07:12So, your academy is in Azad Maidan.
07:15What was it like there?
07:17How did you travel?
07:20I used to stay there.
07:22There is a place called Madanpura.
07:24I used to stay there and run my academy.
07:26Running an academy in Mumbai is very easy.
07:29You can easily get nets there.
07:32In the beginning, my best friend was Javed.
07:36He runs a club called Muslim United.
07:40He gave me a free offer to practice with my kids.
07:46So, I started practicing from there.
07:50This decision is for any young player.
07:53Especially for parents.
07:55You don't belong to a well-to-do family.
07:59It must not have been easy for you.
08:01Everyone knows about the tents.
08:03You stayed at your relative's house for a while.
08:06But you couldn't stay there for a long time.
08:09When I went there for the first time,
08:11I rented a flat in Nala Sopara.
08:13I stayed there for a few months.
08:16After that, there was a movement in Mumbai.
08:20The academy was closed for a few years.
08:23Everyone came home.
08:25When I went there again,
08:27I went to my relative's house.
08:29I stayed there for a few days.
08:31I usually stay in India.
08:33After that, I went to my friend's house.
08:37After that, I went to Jwala Singh's house.
08:39When we talk about his childhood,
08:45when he was training under you,
08:47what was different about him
08:50that he was able to run a long race?
08:52I had a goal from the beginning.
08:55If you have talent in your childhood,
08:57you should get a chance in the team.
08:59At a very young age,
09:01we started giving him a chance in the senior team.
09:03I have his picture.
09:05He started playing in the senior team.
09:07We used to see his talent.
09:10He used to play in the leg-spin team.
09:12I used to sit in his place in the leg-spin team.
09:14We used to play together.
09:16He didn't come up and play?
09:18At that time, the tournaments in the village
09:21were 12 overs and 8 overs.
09:23He didn't have that much strength.
09:25He used to play in the leg-spin team.
09:29He used to play like that.
09:31He used to play like that?
09:33Yes, but now he doesn't have the power
09:35to play like that.
09:40Let's move forward in time.
09:42When he started playing in Mumbai,
09:46what changes did you see during that time?
09:50Did you prepare the foundation?
09:52A lot of things have changed since Uttar Pradesh.
09:56We used to give him chances in the senior team.
09:58We used to motivate him.
10:01He had become a leader in the game.
10:06When you go to Mumbai,
10:08you see the school cricket in Mumbai.
10:11The cricket that was played here,
10:13the public pressure, big matches.
10:16Those things are very easy in Mumbai.
10:19According to that,
10:22he made a lot of runs there.
10:24I think before playing under-16,
10:27he scored around 50 runs.
10:32But when a young player,
10:34a kid who is staying away from home,
10:37has to prove himself there,
10:40you don't have the resources,
10:43you don't have the money,
10:45how did you motivate him?
10:47We were struggling.
10:49I didn't have the money to give him treatment.
10:54When I closed the academy there,
10:56he had to stay in the tent.
10:58I used to come and go to the tent.
11:00After that, we used to talk.
11:02Once he was very upset.
11:04I told him that there are a lot of players here.
11:09I told him,
11:11this is like a coconut tree,
11:13it will keep growing.
11:15I had an idea,
11:17what is talent and what is a player.
11:19I told him this,
11:21and within 2 years,
11:23he was at the top of his age group.
11:26In 2014, you posted a Facebook post.
11:28Tell us about that.
11:30I had a feeling.
11:32I showed it to other people.
11:34I used to talk to people,
11:36this kid is good,
11:37give him some stuff.
11:39Sponsor him.
11:41Give him a place to stay.
11:43People used to react,
11:45they used to say,
11:47let's go, let's go.
11:49But at the right time,
11:51Jwala Singh supported him.
11:53This is the truth.
11:55When you had a lot of money,
11:59did you have to crowdfund?
12:01Yes, I used to meet people.
12:03I used to tell them,
12:05I want to play in India.
12:07I used to come to Ishmetan.
12:09People supported me a lot.
12:11When I started playing,
12:13I met a lot of people from Mumbai.
12:15They supported me.
12:17This mission continued.
12:19The mission is still going on.
12:21This is for the mission.
12:25What do you think about
12:27the arrival of a player like Yash Shasmi?
12:29This is a place where
12:31the resources are limited.
12:33There are a lot of shortcomings.
12:35There is a lot of work going on in the infrastructure.
12:37Gradually, there will be
12:39more academies and stadiums.
12:41There is an international stadium
12:43being built there.
12:45Maybe with his arrival,
12:47things and facilities can improve.
12:49Overall, if we talk about
12:51a player who will play for India,
12:53Yash Shasmi Jaiswal
12:55will be the most famous.
12:57What will be the difference?
12:59Look, our environment
13:01has become very big.
13:03In 2001-02,
13:05there was one academy.
13:07Today, there are about 10 academies.
13:09No doubt, a lot of good players
13:11are playing.
13:13They are trying.
13:15In the coming time,
13:17it is possible that more kids
13:19will come to India.
13:21If two kids can play from one house,
13:23then four kids can play from one house.
13:25If we talk about two kids from one house,
13:27Yash Shasmi's brother Tejasvi
13:29also plays cricket.
13:31If we talk about him now,
13:33we will see him in the coming season.
13:35Tejasvi is
13:37100%
13:39my product.
13:41He is a performance player.
13:43He also speaks.
13:45He is a 100%
13:47trademark player.
13:49Yash Shasmi has a lot of
13:51fans.
13:53No doubt, he doesn't make any player
13:55one. There are a lot of people
13:57who help him.
13:59I would like to request the BCCI
14:01that you should know
14:03where the player has come from,
14:05what is his condition,
14:07what struggles he has gone through.
14:09You should also help such academies.
14:11As we can see,
14:13this year,
14:15the 20th league has started in UP.
14:17What is the representation
14:19from your academy?
14:21This year,
14:23a kid has been left behind.
14:25He has not played.
14:27I hope that in the coming time,
14:29he will play in this league.
14:31What is the relationship
14:33between you and Yash Shasmi?
14:35You were talking about his family.
14:37What is the relationship
14:39between you and Yash Shasmi Jaiswal?
14:41He is still at that level.
14:43I don't want to go further.
14:45I want him to play well.
14:47I want him to play well.
14:49I want him to play well.
14:51I want him to play well.
14:53I want him to play well.
14:55Yash Shasmi,
14:57let's talk about a game.
14:59He can play any shot.
15:01But which shot
15:03do you like the most?
15:05Full or Spare Cut.
15:07Is there any reason for that?
15:09He is from a family.
15:11What do you mean by family?
15:13His elder brother is also from a family.
15:15He is from a family.
15:17Full or Spare Cut.
15:21He is from a family.
15:23Let's hope that he will not be limited
15:25to his family.
15:27The young players from Purvanchal,
15:29their representation
15:31has increased in UP Cricket.
15:33It has increased in International Cricket.
15:35These are the people
15:37who are behind success.
15:39People know very little about them.
15:41Let's keep in touch with them.
