Trump: Dems Offering 'Very Little Money' For Border Wall, They Want Another Shutdown

President Trump has said he believes the Democrats want another shutdown, citing the "very little money" they are offering for border security.
"I don't think the Dems on the Border Committee are being allowed by their leaders to make a deal," the president tweeted Sunday. "They are offering very little money for the desperately needed Border Wall & now, out of the blue, want a cap on convicted violent felons to be held in detention!"
"It was a very bad week for the Democrats, with the GREAT economic numbers, The Virginia disaster and the State of the Union address," Trump wrote in another post. "Now, with the terrible offers being made by them to the Border Committee, I actually believe they want a Shutdown. They want a new subject!"
Trump's negative tone seems to be in line with a recent Washington Post report which says: "Bipartisan talks aimed at resolving the border wall dispute and averting a government shutdown Friday have broken down and are at an impasse."
One of the key sticking points is said to be Democrats' desire to curb the aggressiveness of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, or ICE, by limiting the number of detention beds the agency can access at a given time.
At the same time, lawmakers have reportedly been circling a figure between $1.3 billion to $2 billion for border security funding including a possible barrier--far less than the $5.7 billion demanded by Trump.
The possibility of an impasse comes just days after a New York Times report from Friday indicated that a bipartisan deal was close to being completed, with the president privately said to "grudgingly accept a border security figure of about $2 billion."
However, acting White House Chief of Staff Mick Mulvaney seemed to fuel speculation about discord when he said on NBC News' 'Meet the Press' Sunday, "[The president is] going to do whatever he legally can to secure that border."
He went on to say: "Is the shutdown entirely off the table? The answer is no."
