Eating Insects Could
Save the Planet Does the idea of eating insects gross you out? According to scientists,
it shouldn't. Insects such as grasshoppers, crickets and mealworms are surprisingly protein-rich. They are consumed by an estimated 2 billion people worldwide. More American chefs are incorporating insects into
their cuisines. Toasted grasshoppers are gaining popularity and packaged insect 'snacks' are now available. If you're feeling adventurous, try eating grasshoppers in powdered form first. Environmentalists should note that it takes far more resources to sustain a meat-based diet than an insect-based one. Insect farming produces 1% of the greenhouses emissions that cattle or pig farming produce. Henrik Torstensson, Lifesum CEO, via 'The Washington Post'
