Like a Piña Colada served in a flatbrim with a side of steak and chips, King Social is at once refreshing and satiating. An eclectic Aussie five-piece, the group fuses hip-hop and soul with a bevy of other genres to defy musical convention and transcend the bounds of any one genre.
In 2017, King Social unleashed their debut LP In Colour, charting strongly across the ARIA, AIR, iTunes and Triple J Unearthed Charts, scoring high acclaim from radio presenters and street press, and claiming the title of Australia’s highest ever crowd-funded debut. The album spurred the lads’ biggest tour yet, which saw them play to packed houses down the East Coast and regional centres across Queensland.
Formed in 2013, the unlikely mates at the heart of King Social look like the stragglers at the shittiest ever UN Convention – there’s an ocker cowboy, a Greek hippy, a rapping Scottish/Aboriginal, a Fijian with an infectious smile, and a lead guitarist with no particular racial skew, but questionable dress sense.
Together they’ve racked up an enormous feat of achievements including:
• Debut album In Colour charted at #40 on the ARIA Australia, #1 on the iTunes Australia hip-hop charts and #1 on the AIR 100% Independent Album charts
• 2-time Vanda & Young Song Writing Competition Finalists in 2016
• 5-time Queensland Music Award Finalists
• 5 x Triple J Unearthed #1 tracks
• Finishing in the Final 5 of Australia’s Got Talent in 2016
Their live shows have been described as “electrifying” and “completely addictive”; and, like a siren’s song, frequently draw crowds in the thousands to be swept up in the good-time vibes that seep from King Social. From the first song they’ll win you over with a masterful mix of soul, rock and hip hop, while still paying homage to their country roots.
