A New York Times story sheds light on potential implications relating to the announced departure of John Kelly.

Ivanka Trump and husband Jared Kushner are now reportedly seen as "running the building" amid news that Vice President Mike Pence's chief of staff Nick Ayers, whom they like, will likely be replacing President Trump's outgoing chief of staff John Kelly.
The comment was attributed to an ally of President Trump in a New York Times report, which adds: "Mr. Kelly had long complained that Ms. Trump and Mr. Kushner, both top advisers to the president, were 'playing government.' He had repeatedly tried to limit their influence amid complaints from others in the West Wing that they did not operate within the system."
While Ayers, 36, has reportedly agreed to replace the retired general as Trump's acting chief of staff on an interim basis, he is not believed to have committed to the position as Trump would like because Ayers had intended to move back to Georgia with his wife and six-year-old triplets, reports NBC News.
Another potential complication could be Ayers' critics within the administration, with one former White House insider telling Politico: "People are threatened by Nick's age and his reputation as this young political savant. He has the endorsements of Jared, Ivanka, and Pence, but not a lot of fans beyond that. That's not to say the majority of the West Wing will empty out, but there are a few staffers who will leave because of him."
President Trump has not commented about Ayers, but he has confirmed Kelly's departure.
"John Kelly will be leaving at the end of the year," he told reporters Saturday. "We'll be announcing who will be taking John's place. It might be on an interim basis. I'll be announcing that over the next day or two."
