The Indian Hockey Team kick-started the Men’s Hockey World cup with a 5-0 win over South Africa. Simranjeet Singh was awarded the Man of the Match as his brace added to the 5 goal tally. The captain of the team, P R Sreejesh spoke to the media after the match. He said, “One match doesn’t decide everything but it’s a good start for the team. We’ve made mistakes and there is a room to improve. But now we need to enjoy this victory and carry forward this energy. We came here for the 3 points and we got them. Now, we need to rectify the mistakes we made in today’s match and prepare for the next.” India will face Belgium next on December 2.
