T20 World Cup 2022: Want To Make India A Finished Product, Says Rahul Dravid
It's been 100 days as head coach of Indian cricket team for Rahul Dravid. From captaincy controversy, Test series defeat in South Africa to winning the white-ball series against West Indies at home, it's been a roller-coaster ride for the former captain. Dravid is keen to see India do well in the T20 World Cup in Australia later this year and he says a lot of work remains. India did not qualify for the knockouts in T20 World Cup in UAE in 2021. 00:00 It's been a great learning experience.
00:01 I mean, you just run through everything.
00:03 And for me, when I look at that, it's been--
00:06 I've learned a lot.
00:07 I mean, I know it's not--
00:09 it's been-- like you rightly said,
00:11 I'm not stressed too much about the results.
00:15 And yeah, but for me, it's--
00:17 I just want the team to get better.
00:18 We just want to move in the right direction.
00:21 Yeah, I mean, South Africa, like I mentioned,
00:23 was a reality check for us, especially in the one-day
00:27 format.
00:29 Test cricket, while it was disappointing,
00:31 a few things could have gone our way.
00:33 We would have a bit of luck.
00:34 But yeah, I mean, I think we just--
00:37 for me, it's really important to keep learning as a coach,
00:40 to keep improving.
00:42 As we've learned, and I keep learning every day,
00:44 new things crop up, new things come up.
00:46 I'm not going to--
00:47 I don't expect not to make mistakes.
00:49 I'm going to make mistakes.
00:50 I'm going to get stuff wrong.
00:53 But I'll learn.
00:54 I'll improve.
00:55 And I'll get better.
00:57 And I hope the team will want to do that.
00:59 And that's what we want to do.
01:00 We want to keep going forward.
01:02 And we've learned something.
01:03 This series is not about winning.
01:05 It's not-- I'm not excited.
01:05 I mean, yeah, of course, we're happy to win.
01:07 And it's better to win than to lose, let's be honest.
01:09 But for me, it's just really been
01:11 nice to see some of the younger guys come through in this one
01:14 day, in this T20 series, and how they've--
01:17 it's not been an easy to beat.
01:18 I think the West Indies are a tough team
01:21 to beat in T20 cricket, especially.
01:22 They're a very strong team, as we saw.
01:24 They've got some real power hitters.
01:26 They've got people really low down the order who can--
01:29 they can take the game away from you.
01:31 And the way some of our boys have stepped up,
01:33 we've had to bat first, in twice,
01:36 bowl in really wet conditions with a wet ball twice,
01:39 and defend scores.
01:41 So I think these are the kind of things that tell you--
01:44 they make you feel happy, and that we're
01:45 moving in the right direction.
01:46 Some of the pieces are coming together.
01:48 But we'll need to keep improving.
01:49 We'll need to keep getting better.
01:52 We're far from the finished product.
01:54 And I think we want to be really competitive in Australia.
01:58 We've got to improve.
01:59 We've got to get better.
02:00 And we've got to execute better with both bat and ball,
02:03 and in the field as well.
