Chris has difficulty coming to terms with the fact that Tom has left. When Geoffrey Standish, a brilliant, highly qualified doctor from the city arrives, Chris finds it even more difficult working at the RFDS. Despite being on 24-hour call, Geoff gets drunk. It emerges he too is struggling to come to terms with personal loss: his wife died of cancer and he holds himself responsible.
