The glitz is wearing off the sleazy Barry Standish who attempts to rape and terrorise Kate. Behind the scenes Geoff tries to right his brother's wrongs by paying off his debts but Barry’s treatment of Kate goes beyond the pale. Despite his efforts to rise above violence, Geoff finds himself in a brawl with his brother, fighting for Kate’s honour. Afterwards, he tries to make amends with Kate, but she is frustrated by his secretive nature and leaves town to get over him.
