McDonald’s workers and activists in Chicago marched to the company’s headquarters on Tuesday, September 18, as part of a nationwide strike to protest sexual harassment in the fast-food restaurant franchise. As they chanted in front of the headquarters building, “Sexual harassment has got to go!”, a plane flew overhead with a banner that said, “McDonald’s: Stop Sexual Harassment.”The protests – the first multi-state strike against sexual harassment in the US – were organized by the workers’ rights group Fight for $15.Workers also demonstrated at McDonald’s outlets in St. Louis and Los Angeles. The protests were also held in seven other cities: Milwaukee, Kansas City, New Orleans, Durham, Miami, Orlando and San Francisco.Last May, sexual harassment claims were filed with the US Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of 10 women, with Fight for $15 and the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund backing the lawsuit.
