McDonald’s workers and activists in St Louis, Missouri, rallied on Tuesday, September 18, as part of a nationwide strike to protest sexual harassment in the fast-food restaurant franchise.The protesters chanted “Hold the burgers, hold the fries, keep your hands off my thighs" and carried banners, one of which said, “#MeToo McDonald’s.”The protests – the first multi-state strike against sexual harassment in the US – were organized by the workers’ rights group Fight for $15.Workers also demonstrated in front of McDonald’s headquarters in Chicago, with a plane flying overhead with a banner that said, “McDonald’s: Stop Sexual Harassment.”The protests were also held in eight other cities: Milwaukee, Kansas City, New Orleans, Durham, Miami, Orlando, Los Angeles and San Francisco.Last May, sexual harassment claims were filed with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission on behalf of 10 women, with Fight for $15 and the Time’s Up Legal Defense Fund backing the lawsuit.
