Protesters disrupted a press conference held by Katter’s Australian Party (KAP) outside Queensland Parliament House on Thursday, September 6, calling Bob Katter and Fraser Anning racists and a disgrace. The KAP were set to lose four staff on Friday after Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk pulled parliamentary staffing resources from the party due to a number of anti-Muslim comments made by Anning during his maiden speech in the senate, including use of the term “final solution” and suggesting a ban on Muslim immigration. The protesters, members of the QUT Socialist Alternative Club, said they were protesting on campus for abortion rights when they spotted Katter and Anning arriving at the neighbouring Parliament House for a press conference.“We couldn’t let it happen without yelling at these racist dogs and ruining their day,” they wrote on Facebook.Katter was unfazed by the protesters, according to the ABC. “I have been in this place for 20-odd years and we had mass demonstrations, not piss-ant little business like out there,” he said.In this video, the protesters can be heard chanting “Muslims are welcome, racists are not,” until Katter approaches and asks when they plan to “shut up.” The protesters continue to chant as Katter’s party and media moved into the building.
