Basra residents protested at the provincial governor’s office for the third day in a row on September 6, escalating unrest that has rocked the southern Iraqi city for months.Demonstrators waved the Iraqi flag from atop the governor’s office during Thursday’s protest.Since the Basra protest movement began in July, 22 people have been killed and scores injured. This week, protesters have been incensed over the killing of seven activists in four days.Basra has been rocked by unrest for months, amid anger over problems with the water supply, infrastructure, and lack of economic opportunity in the oil-rich Iraqi province.
