After a successful first album, British alternative rock band Nothing But Thieves seemed primed for glory. Behind the scenes, however, the success and incessant touring started to catch up with them. Frontman Conor Mason, in particular, struggled with depression and insomnia. It got so bad that for a short time the band’s survival hung in the balance. Luckily, the band found a way through it, and because of it, delivered an even more personal and heartfelt album in Broken Machine. “It took Conor three or four months to get himself back together, but he told us he had been feeling that way for a long time. We had a really long tour in America, he struggled for a bit, and it just broke him eventually.”
