Disturbed: Covering Simon & Garfunkel “felt like a risk”

With five consecutive albums reaching the top spot of the Billboard 200, American heavy metal band Disturbed has cultivated a strong following over the years. With the release of their cover of Simon & Garfunkel’s ‘The Sound Of Silence’ last year, the band has managed to reach even more people. The result, as Draiman puts it, “speaks for itself.” However, at the time covering the iconic song it felt like a tremendous challenge. “The whole thing felt like a risk, no doubt about it. You’re dealing with one of the most well-known songs of all time, written by one of the most prolific songwriters of all time. A lot of people would view that as completely untouchable, but we tend to put our nuts on the table from time to time.”
