Trump On Threat Of Russian Meddling: 'We'll Counteract Whatever They Do'

President Trump on Tuesday addressed the issue of Russian meddling in the US election.

President Trump on Tuesday said that the U.S. has been preparing to counter Russian meddling in the 2018 elections, reports NPR. The topic came up during a joint press conference with Swedish Prime Minister Stefan Lofven. Trump's response to a question on the matter began with an effort to downplay the effect that influence had in 2016. "Well, the Russians had no impact on our votes whatsoever," the president commented. "But, certainly, there was meddling and probably there was meddling from other countries and maybe other individuals."  "We're doing a very, very deep study, and we're coming out with some, I think, very strong suggestions on the '18 election," Trump further noted.
He also said that he's "not worried" about Russia's meddling in the upcoming election because "we'll counteract whatever they do. We'll counteract it very strongly. And we are having strong backup systems."
The president's comments come as special counsel Robert Mueller's investigation into 2016 election meddling and the Trump campaign's possible involvement in it continues.  Thus far, the inquiry has resulted in a number of guilty pleas and indictments. While no Americans have yet been charged with election-interference-related crimes, 13 Russian individuals and 3 Russian companies have been indicted on charges related to the manufacturing and spread of propaganda.
