Democrats And Republicans Are Both Racing To Get Trump’s Top Priority Passed
During the election, supporters of Donald Trump used the metaphor of the “Trump Train.” The idea was to “get on board or get run over.”
The promise was that President Trump would waste no time, and would flatten all obstructions to the agenda he presented to the American people.
His first year has been an overwhelming success, minus replacing Obamacare, but this was courtesy of a couple of RINO senators who shall remain nameless.
But major tax reform happened. And much of Mr. Obama’s legacy, including Obamacare, is in ruins. The federal courts are becoming more conservative. Immigration reform is happening. And much more.
President Trump’s next project is to fulfill one more promise he made during the campaign: Fix the nation’s infrastructure. Unlike tax reform or judicial appointments, this is something the Democrats can get behind.
They certainly do not want to alienate blue-collar workers who are necessarily employed in such construction projects. So the president is working on getting support for this major project from both sides of the aisle.

Unlike the tax cuts that were pushed through solely by Republican lawmakers, an infrastructure package is something Democrats and the GOP may actually find common ground on.
Talk of an impending infrastructure bill blossomed after the leak of an apparent White House infrastructure plan surfaced in the media. Politico provided its contents in full online.
While the leaked document does not reference any specific dollar amount, it covers how almost all infrastructure funds would be spent, being directed to various programs to improve the country’s infrastructure.
This is no small or insignificant project. We’ve got a lot of old stuff. Roads and bridges probably come to mind first. But there is also the absolutely vital national electrical grid.
It is nowhere near as robust as it should be. And we all know what happens when the lights go out. The economy stops. And worse.
The president’s plan proposes allocations of funds to various projects. But the key will be the cooperation he can generate with the Democrats. Naturally, they will want to see their agenda as part of the plan as well.
And here’s what Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer had to say:
“We need a really robust investment in infrastructure by the government,” said Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, according to The Hill.
“We’re challenging the president — he talked about it in his campaign — to join us in this and if he does we’ll work with him.”
“It’s a challenge to the president. He ran on a campaign of a $1 trillion infrastructure bill,” Schumer continued.
That sounds good. We’ll see how it works out. The Democrats, as just observed, have nothing to gain by taking a hard-nosed obstructionist approach to infrastructure spending. And they know it.
What will be interesting will be the haggling over where these projects will begin. Recall that lawmakers love to use the federal purse to bring jobs to their states and districts.
However the final bill is configured, we’ll predict that there will be one that gets passed with significant Democratic support.
