Despite suffering two terrorist attacks and a deadly rampage through Times Square, New York City appears on track to experience its lowest number of homicides in the modern-era. As of December seventeenth, the city with a population of 8.5 million people, long considered the murder capital of America, had recorded only 278 murders.
