MARCELO GROSS
Cachorro Grande's guitar player, the musician Marcelo Gross decided recover several songs that were in his drawer to create his new parallel project. Joined by drummer Clayton Martin (Detetives, Cidadão Instigado) and bassist Fernando Papassoni (Detetives), he releases the album "Use o Assento para Flutuar", the first album of his solo career.
"The idea for an album came out for two reasons: I compose a lot and several songs were wanting to get out of the drawer, but were more personal, so does not fit in the Cachorro Grande. Second was the desire I had for some time to work with Clayton, who is an old friend of mine and co-produced the record with me", says Gross.
The record sessions happened at the Submarine Studio in Sao Paulo, where the instruments were recorded live without overdubs or metronomes. Vocals and mixing were done in the famous Trama Studio and mastering was done at Turan Audio, Oxford, England, where the Supergrass and Bob Dylan albuns were mastered too.
Gross and Martin headed the whole album production. Martin has been produced artists such as Arnaldo Antunes (ex-Titãs) and Barbara Eugenia, among others.
For 2014, the songwriter/organist/pianist/keyboardist Charly Coombes (ex-Supergrass) has joined the band for live set.
Influenced by artists such as John Lennon, Keith Richards, Arnaldo Baptista, Smokey Robinson and Neil Young, the guitarist was inspired by classic rock'n'roll to make an unique and visceral disc, which includes everything that rock does best: distorced guitars, romantic lyrics and fun riffs.
The album has been released by record label Monstro from Goiania, which has in its catalog other big bands from Brazil like Jupiter Maçã/Jupiter Apple, among others. In addition to the CD, the album has also been released on vinyl by selo 180 Fonogramas, who recently released the album "Baixo Augusta" from Cachorro Grande.
The double vinyl has been released on 45 RPM and pressed by GZ Vinyl in the Czech Republic, the largest manufacturer of vinyl in the world and responsible for the production of new editions of albums by the Beatles, the Rolling Stones and The Who.
Inspired by love and road trips, the album has its title taken from a seemingly ordinary notice, but which may contain several meanings, as the account itself Marcelo Gross. "The album title has to do with travel without moving, and music can provide that. This name came to mind 'cause I travel every week and I see that on a plane seats warning. I found it interesting the different interpretations to what was originally to be just a warning: 'Use the seat to floatation".
