La valaisanne Christine Zufferey, issue de la scène underground rock de Boston et parisienne d’adoption, nous revient en enchanteresse folk alternative avec son dernier opus “Tales from the Underground”, aboutissement et performance de son projet Mary Zoo. Enivrant mélange de textes tantôt en anglais, tantôt en français.
Des mots envoûtants aux sensations et aux légendes intemporelles. Christine se produira le 18 mars en concert intimiste au Lac Souterrain de St-Léonard avec Emilie Cavallo au violoncelle et Damien Sarret au oud et charango, puis au Festival Voix de Fête à Genève le 25 mars 2017 au Théâtre Pitoëff avec Emilie, Damien et la participation des cordes de l'OVA.
Ces deux concerts seront la sortie officielle en Suisse de “Tales from the Underground”, un disque/livre dans lequel on longe, on plonge, on remonte avec 16 titres et histoires écrits, inventés, nés dans les catacombes interdites de Paris. On y découvre également une ensorcelante adaptation de la “danse macabre”, poème symphonique composé en 1874 par Camille Saint-Saëns. Un disque/livre de 64 pages où nous retrouvons, en première partie, l’ensemble des chansons, magistralement illustrées par d’éminents et fantasmagoriques dessins de l’artiste Bahadir Isler.
Puis on s’engouffre dans les étourdissantes et les très élégantes photos de Gaspard Duval et ses mots sur l’histoire des sous-sols parisiens. L’album est enregistré à l’Atelier Clandestin par Antoine Delecroix, qui a su préserver le côté sobre, acoustique et cru des prestations live, en ajoutant de la profondeur et les couleurs d’instants électriques, aériens, mélancoliques et chauds. On se prend également en plein coeur un orchestre à cordes, du oud, du charango, du duduk, du farfisa, de la musette Renaissance, des percussions et enfin une invitée spéciale sur “Lantern”, Gabriela de “Rodrigo y Gabriela”…
Originating from the Boston underground rock scene, Swiss native and adopted Parisian Christine Zufferey is coming back with her new opus "Tales from the Underground", as an enchantress in her own folk alternative style with her project MARY ZOO. It is an intoxicating body of songs, at times in English, at times in French with captivating words of abiding feelings and timeless legends. Christine performs solo on twelve string and acoustic guitar, as a duo with Emilie Cavallo on cello, and sometimes with other guest musicians.
“Tales from the Underground”, a CD/book into which you dive and resurface with 16 tracks and stories written beneath the City of Lights, in the forbidden catacombs of Paris. There is also a bewitching adaptation of the “Danse Macabre”, a symphonic poem composed in 1874 by Camille Saint-Saëns. A CD/book of 64 pages; in the first part you’ll find the songs illustrated by eminent and phantasmagoric drawings by the artist Bahadir Isler. In the second part, you will dive into Gaspard Duval’s astonishing and very elegant photos and into his words about the history of the Capital’s undergrounds.
The album was recorded at the “Clandestine Atelier” by Antoine Delecroix. He was able to keep the acoustic, sober and raw quality of Mary Zoo’s solo performances while adding depths and colors to the arrangements, moving it from electric to floaty, from melancholic to warm to eerie. You will hear a string ensemble, oud, charango, duduk, farfisa, Renaissance chamber pipe, percussions and more and, as a special guest on “Lantern”, Gabriela of “Rodrigo y Gabriela”…
