PRESENTED BY NATALIA RIVERA

Liquidarlo Celuloide is a psychedelic noise rock band formed in Lima, Perú, in 2003. Its origins as Juan Diego Capurro’s solo project spawned two LPs: 2003’s “Pradera Tóxica” and “Fiebre de lo Misterioso”. Needing to adapt the project for live performances, Capurro recruits guitar player Valentin Yoshimoto and drummer Alfonso Vargas, who joins Capurro as the band’s other stable member during a series of changes in the string players between 2005 and 2010. After 5 LPs, an EP, a Split EP and a few incarnations as a three-piece, including stints by bassist Teté Leguía and guitarist Javier Manrique, the band’s sound progressively evolves from improvisational live spasms where psychedelia, industrial rock and drone collide to strong Groove elements that permeate compositional structures while retaining the aforementioned elements. In the year 2011 guitarist Efrén Castillo and electric bassist Giancarlo Rebagliati join Capurro and Vargas comprising the band’s lineup to this day, a lineup whose sound is experimental and abrasive in spirit but with a more physical goal, amping up its rhythmic spectrum while generating danceable synergies on live performances. As a direct result, the song structures aim to balance the band’s dance and noise aspects, with results best seen in the band’s latest two LPs: 2014’s “Vértigo Magnético”, which sees the band perform outside its homeland for the first time, touring Argentina in 2015 and Mexico in 2017, in which they played the NRMAL Festival, and 2017’s “Superfricción”, which adds vocal and lyrical elements to the band’s songbook, and whose sound is directly related to the more streamlined aspects of post-punk while retaining the band’s aggression.
