Tomorrow Never Comes Title Sequence

‘Tomorrow Never Comes’ was a short film I created in my foundation course three years prior. I decided to take that ‘brand’ and film a new high production title sequence for it. The plot of the original film was the build up to a major terrorist attack on London; bear in mind the original was made 2 years before 7/7. The focus of the title sequence was the everyday journey to work of the protagonist. The journey was on the Docklands Light Railway from Lewisham to Bank via Canary Wharf. I chose to use the DLR because, to me, it is far more than just a transport system, it is like an unmanned rollercoaster weaving its way across London, with a monopoly on so many interesting and eclectic locations to pass through. I wanted to build up a feeling of tension and impending doom as the train and its passenger headed closer to their final destination. I wanted to the train itself to be a character, as is the case with the protagonist, the train is carrying out the same routine and passing through the same locales it does every morning, yet oblivious to the events which are about to unfold. I filmed only when the sky was overcast and added a very low saturation, high contrast grade in post production. Filming took around 5 days, which was after lengthy location scouting and photographic storyboarding. Some of you may notice the strong references this title sequence bears to ‘The Warriors’ (1979).
