Researchers reported that two-thirds of the people prescribed a drug for opioid addiction get more after treatment. The team reported that over 40-percent also get an opioid concurrent with buprenorphine, which can potentially counteract treatment efforts. Released in the journal Addiction, the report suggests doctors are not checking patient prescription records before prescribing out painkillers. The study used records from a pharmacy claims database that included 38,000 users of buprenorphine from a data-set of 50 million records across 11 states.
