How to Use the Article THE - English Grammar
The article "the" can be used with singular or plural nouns.
For example, if you say "the hand", you are referring to one specific hand, not to many other hands.
It is about something definite and specific.
But you can also use the article "the", when you talk about a few things. For example, if you talk about your hands, you say "the hands".
Article "the" can be used also with uncountable nouns. For example, if you say "the sand", when you are talking about the sand on the beach. You see, sand is uncountable noun. You can not count sand.
Or when you say "the sound", it is also uncountable noun, because we can not count sounds.
