The owners of a wine bar in Washington, D.C. are suing President Trump and the Trump International Hotel over "unfair competition," reports the Washington Post.
Diane Gross, one of the proprietors of Cork Wine Bar, told the Post that, since the inauguration, business has been impacted. She said that many of the groups the restaurant used to serve are now flocking to the Trump International Hotel, likely hoping, “to curry favor with the president.”
The suit was filed on Wednesday by a team of attorneys reportedly working on the case at no charge.
Scott Rome, one of the lawyers involved, spoke with the Washingtonian and noted that if lobbyists, dignitaries, or other individuals involved with government, “have a party to book, they’re going to book it there first, whether to gain influence with the president, to gain influence with the administration…It seems to us to be a clear situation in which he’s using his office of the president to get a financial gain at the expense of local businesses.”
The plaintiffs’ goal is to push President Trump towards making greater efforts to ensure he is not reaping unfair business benefits due to his position.
