BIRMINGHAM, ALABAMA — A burglar who was breaking into an Alabama home last Friday was injured when the pregnant homeowner opened fire at him.

Marquita Turner, who is five months pregnant, was reportedly asleep at the time of the intrusion, but was woken up when she heard a noise at 2:20 a.m. last Friday.

Police said the suspect thought Turner was not home because one of her two cars was not in her driveway.

Turner was armed with a pink Millennium 9 pistol when she left her bedroom to investigate, reported WVTM 13. When she saw the the burglar in her hallway, she reportedly fired two or three times, hitting the burglar once and injuring him. He was later taken to hospital.

According to WVTM13, Turner expressed the desire to move to elsewhere, and started a GoFundMe page for donations to help pay for a new home for her and her unborn child.
