Soon after, he became aware that his mouth was bleeding and drove himself to the hospital.
He was kept overnight for observation, but has since been released.

In a tweet, the Columbus police gave an update on the situation, writing, “FYI on officer injured by glass in sandwich: At this point in the investigation there is no reason to believe it was intentional.”
