BROOKLYN PARK, MINNESOTA — After a jury recently convicted a Minnesota man for attacking a police officer, the Brooklyn Park Police Department has released dash cam footage of the incident.

Lance Carr, 25, was convicted last week of first-degree assault for attacking officer Sean Hyman on Nov. 29, 2015. Hyman had responded to a noise complaint about a car near a townhome. When he arrived on the scene, Hyman found Carr inside the vehicle and discovered that there was an outstanding felony warrant for Carr.

The officer asked Carr to step out of the car and proceeded to arrest him, but before Hyman could get the cuffs on Carr, the felon spun around and tackled the officer to the ground.

Unable to reach his radio, Hyman begins screaming for help. Neighbors hear his cries and called the police.

The two wrestle on the ground for a few minutes. At one point, Carr could be seen putting Hyman into a choke hold. Then Hyman discharged his weapon, missing his assailant but rendered the gun inoperable.

When backup arrived on the scene, Hyman could be heard yelling, "Shoot him!" Responding officers tased and pulled Carr off Hyman and arrest him.

Brooklyn Park Police Chief Craig Enevoldsen said the video shows how Carr intended to harm Hyman as he had the opportunity to get away but chose not to.

Hyman was transported to hospital on a stretcher and was off work for 16 days. He has since returned to his patrol.
