Silicon Valley investor accused of keeping ex-stripper as sex slave for 13 years

SAN FRANCISCO — Silicon Valley investor Michael Goguen has parted ways with venture capital firm Sequoia Capital after a disturbing lawsuit claimed he'd used a woman as a sex slave since she was 15 years old.

Filed last week, the civil litigation alleges that Goguen had a sexual relationship with Amber Baptiste for 13 years, during which he abused her emotionally and physically.

They had an agreement where Goguen would pay Baptise $40 million to not discuss their relationship. He only paid $10 million of that, and now Baptiste is suing him.

Baptiste's lawsuit claims the two met at a Texas strip club when she was 15. Goguan filed counter litigation — citing extortion and invasion of privacy — alleging the they met when Baptiste was an adult.

Both parties discuss one night when they engaged in anal sex at a London hotel, leaving Baptiste with an anal tear requiring surgery. How serious that injury was is where their accounts differ.

Goguen reportedly claims it was minor, saying Baptiste emailed him following the encounter writing the surgery was not a big deal and how wonderful the night was. However, Baptiste alleges the anal tear was so bad that she was left nearly bleeding to death and needed emergency aid.

While they disagree on much of the details, both agree they had a contract and sexual
relationship.

Regardless of the outcome, the case fits the narrative that Silicon Valley has a problem with gender and sexual harassment — particularly in venture capital, where it's one big sausage party.
