A NASA software engineer has released photos of different parts of the U.S. with the skies edited to include his concept of what it would look like if Earth had planetary rings.

Saturn’s rings are a distinctive feature of the planet, but what if they were also located around Earth? 
NASA software engineer Kevin Gill has released a set of photos called “Rings Over Earth” which shows how these structures would appear to a person looking up. 
With picturesque vacation photos as the base, he used imaging software to create two translucent, rainbow-shaped arches over different parts of the U.S.  
The thick white stripes can be seen over parts of Los Angeles, New Hampshire, and even around Earth.
