'South Today', 30 Dec 1996

Harry Gration presents 'South Today' on 30 December 1996, including a review of the popular 'Southern Ways' feature.

Over the Christmas period that year, bulletins came from Studio B whilst Studio A was set and lit for a new look to 'South Today' from early January. During this transition, visual continuity of the house style was maintained by using a still of a wide shot of the outgoing set, into which the presenter was inserted electronically. Studio B is significantly smaller than A, so some digital 'shrinking' of the shot of the presenter was also necessary to achieve this illusion.

Stills of the usual Studio A backdrop were inlaid into other shots as appropriate but the deception is detectable at 11'27", when a different camera appears to be selected in error: Harry is looking to the expected camera momentarily and the real colour of the Studio B backdrop, without its electronic inlay, can be seen (compare with the shot at 10'56").

A trail for the new look programme follows the bulletin.
