Brazil: Landowner Lobby Could Gain More Power over Indigenous Land

Indigenous groups are protesting a proposed constitutional amendment that would change the way ancestral lands are demarcated. The new measure would give a conservative Congress the power to set new boundaries of indigenous reserves. Opponents say the amendment known as PEC 215 would give more power to cattle ranchers, big soy bean growers and other agribusinesses. And weeks before the COP 21 climate summit in Paris, musician Gilberto Gil and environmental activists called on Brazil to do more to fight climate change and stop deforestation. teleSUR
