Honduras: Only Country on Continent that Prohibits Emergency Pill

International experts on public health, women’s rights and sexuality met in Tegucigalpa, Honduras, for a forum on the emergency anti-conception pill that was declared illegal by Congress after the 2009 coup d’etat. Although Honduras is a secular state, according to the Constitution, government actions are increasingly influenced by religious groups that consider contraception “a sin.” The ban on the pill violates international agreements that guarantee women’s right to birth control. Honduras is the only country on the continent that prohibits the pill. Gerardo Torres reports from Central America for teleSUR.
