Vernacular education: Silence of the Constitution

On May 12, Malaysiakini posted a report on a speech by former Courts of Appeals judge Mohd Noor Abdullah at a forum themed 'GE13 post-mortem: Muslim leadership and survival'.

In his speech, he made reference to vernacular education and said that they should be abolished. The constitution he said does not recognise national type (Sekolah Jenis Kebangsaan) Chinese and Tamil schools.

Some have called on the Attorney General to charge the former Appeals Court judge for sedition. There have been several police reports against Mohd Noor Abdullah.

We speak to law lecturer Azmi Sharom, Constitutional law expert Dr Abdul Aziz Bari and human rights activist and author Dr Kua Kia Soong for their take on Mohd Noor Abdullah's views.

The transcript of his speech is here: http://www.malaysiakini.com/news/230867

Muslim NGOs have however come in support of Mohd Noor Abdullah.
