Syed Saddiq gets temporary release of passport to travel to Bangkok

Muar MP Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman was granted access to his passport by the Court of Appeal on Wednesday (Aug 14) to enable him to travel to Thailand.

He applied for the temporary release of his passport to attend the Asean Halal Pavilion event organised by Tahira Group in Bangkok this Friday and Saturday.

00:12He applied for the temporary release of his passport to attend the ASEAN Halal Pavilion

00:22His lawyer, Datuk Hisham Tehpothek, said his client was invited to the event by the Tahira
00:27Group and that the passport would be returned to the court after his return on Monday.
00:33In the affidavit to support his application, Syed Sadiq said he is not a flight risk and
00:38the court had previously released the passport for him to travel abroad and he had returned
00:42the passport to court upon his return.
00:44A three-judge panel allowed his application after Deputy Public Prosecutor Mohammad Afif
00:49Ali did not object to it.
00:52On November 9 last year, Syed Sadiq was sentenced to seven years in jail and fined 10 million
00:57ringgit and two strokes of the cane by the KL High Court after he was found guilty of
01:02four charges of criminal breach of trust, misappropriation of funds and money laundering.
01:08He subsequently filed an appeal to the Court of Appeal and the High Court allowed his application
01:13for a stay of execution of all sentences pending the appeal.
01:18The case management has been set on September 20.
