Since its launch the Ciaz sedan of Maruti has sold more than 50,000 units. But of late it was seeing a slump in sales because of which Maruti has offered a Rs.25,000 discount on it to clear the stocks lying with the dealerships. Now it will replace its Diesel Ciaz with a hybrid one which it is planning to launch right after this year’s Independence Day.
Since this is a hybrid car, along with the earlier 1.3-liter multijet drivetrain, the new Ciaz will also use Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) technology, which was first showcased at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show. This technology uses regenerative braking to charge the on board lithium-ion battery. The SHVS will also improve Ciaz’s mileage figures to 30kmpl.
Indian markets haven’t had a successful hybrid car as yet, but let’s hope Maruti can change it and by the looks of it, they might just be successful in doing that.
