Chile: Former Secret Police Chief Dies

Manuel Contreras, the Chilean military officer who was chief of General Augusto Pinochet’s much feared secret police, died Friday at age 86. Hundreds gathered outside the military hospital to celebrate the death of the second-in-command during the military dictatorship. Contreras was serving a combination of 40 sentences totaling more than 500 years in prison for crimes against humanity, with 59 cases still pending. teleSUR
