Peru: Gov't Fears Resurgence of Shining Path Guerrillas

Peruvian authorities are concerned over a possible resurgence of the Shining Path guerrillas and future military confrontations. Shining Path had been largely inactive since the mid-1990s years but the recent rescue of 54 captives from the Maoist guerrilla group and its continued presence in certain coca-growing regions raised fears that it is far from dormant. The government says the guerrillas work with drug traffickers to obtain funds. teleSUR
