Lives – Venezuela’s Children’s and Youth Orchestras

Venezuela’s National Network of Orchestras is based on founder Jose Antonio Abreu’s premise that “The spiritual world generated by music can defeat physical poverty.” Today generations of musicians are being trained among children and youth in all parts of the country. There is an initiation program for children between 4 and 8 years old, and many states have programs for children and youth with Down’s syndrome and other special needs. The system extends to the lowest income families and the most remote parts of the country such as Mucuchies, the highest town in Venezuela. teleSUR
