Indian Army may have shortlisted Tata Safari and Mahindra Scorpio for supply of around 3200 vehicles for replacing its old fleet of sports utility vehicles, nonetheless they aren’t in a hurry to phase out the Maruti Suzuki Gypsy.
That’s right…the largest automaker of India has ordered 2071 Gypsy models to Indian Army. The vehicle will continue to remain on sale in the country, and sales are restricted for defense force only. Since 1991, the company has delivered more than 31,000 Gypsies to the Army.
This is the second order in seven months, and 4000 were delivered last December. The engine is paired with five-speed manual transmission with 4x4 configuration.
Maruti Gypsy with a price tag of Rs. 6 lakhs will make this order worth over Rs. 125 crores.
