Potter and Graham Hunt had jumped from a promontory called Taft Point in Yosemite National Park, California.
The New York Times notes that, "Flying in wingsuits, they tried to clear a notch in the granite cliffs but instead smashed into the rocks in quick succession."
Potter was 43 and Hunt was 29.
