Off-Duty sheriff guns down robbery suspect

An off-duty Cook County Sheriff's officer shot and killed a robbery suspect at a gas station in the Pullman neighborhood of Chicago on Monday night.

Shortly before 10 p.m., three males tried to rob the off-duty sergeant as he was pumping gas at a Citgo in the 700 block of East 103rd Street.

One of them pointed a gun at the officer and demanded his wallet. He gave it to them, but then pulled out his own gun and shot the robber who had threatened him, killing the suspect on the spot.

The 16-year-old robber, identified as Deonta Dewight Mackey, was shot in the head and pronounced dead on the scene. The two other suspects fled the scene with the sergeant's wallet.

Police are still searching for them.
