Ecuador Promotes Sustainable Ecotourism

Ecuador has declared 2015 as the Year of Quality Tourism. TeleSUR correspondent Liz Scherffius visits the Quilotoa indigenous community south of Quito, where ecotourism is being promoted. Ecotourism helps attract additional tourists, while at the same time preserving the environment, promoting local culture, and stimulating the area's economy. Throughout the country, the Environment and Tourism ministries have joined forces to promote ecotourism, working with local communities to develop responsible and sustainable tourism industries and meet quality standards. Ecuador, with its rich biodiversity, is the first Latin American country to join the Global Sustainable Tourism Council.
