Hippo baby: mother gives birth to her 11th baby at San Diego Zoo

A female hippopotamus has given birth to a new baby calf -- its 11th since 1989.

The hippo, Funani, gave birth to the calf at the San Diego Zoo on Monday. The sex of the newborn hippo has yet to be determined.

Funani has given birth to four other calves at the San Diego Zoo. She has birthed 11 calves total since 1989. Her partner, Otis, is a male hippo brought from the Los Angeles Zoo in 1989.
