Netanyahu nixes Palestinian state on eve of elections

One day ahead of parliamentary elections, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of the Likud Party said on Israeli TV that he will not allow the establishment of a Palestinian state if he is relected for a fourth term in office. Lagging behind the center-left Zionist Union in the polls, Netanyahu hardened his rhetoric in an appeal to fears that an independent Palestinian state would foster "radical Islamist terrorist attacks against Israe.l" Many observers interpret the reversal of his former pledge to a two-state solution as a bid for ultra-right support. teleSUR
