Someone must have told the folks at Taco bell that their Chalupa (a taco inexplicably wrapped in deep-fried bread) wasn’t high enough in fat. Good news! They’ve fixed it! they’ve added more cheese!
Yup, Taco Bell has invented a new menu item called the Quesalupa, which we guess is a slightly better made-up word than Chalupadilla, but only by a little. It’s the, um, traditional (?) chalupa, with cheese baked into the flatbread wrapping, which melts during preparation, making this basically a stuffed-crust taco. If this were the second grade, Pizza Hut would be throwing a tantrum and yelling “STOP COPYING ME, TACO BELL!!!”
Taco Bell is testing out the Quesalupa out in a limited market area around Toledo, OH. That technique isn’t unusual, but they’re adding a social-media peer pressure element, wherein the Taco Bell PR team is encouraging people to bully their Toledo-based friends into buying Quesalupas, so the product launch succeeds. Peer Pressure. That’s very… middle school of them!

What other fast food chains’ ideas would you like to see Taco Bel crib from? Does the sheer audacity of the Quesalupa make up for the very greasy hands that will surely follow?
