Peru: Argentine oil company to halt operations

The Peruvian government announced that the Argentine oil company Pluspetrol would halt its operations in the Amazon region. The decision followed violent protests by local organizations that charged that that the company was evicting indigenous peoples from their land and contaminating the environment. At least one person was killed in the protests. teleSUR
