4,000 teachers camp out in Mexico City for wage hike

Early Tuesday morning at 3:30am, a mass sit-on by 4,000 teachers on Mexico City's Paseo de la Reforma avenue was surrounded by Mexico City and federal riot police. The encampment has since been moved to the Monument to the Revolution The teachers had come to the nation's capital to negotiate a salary increase and express their opposition to last year's educational reform that they charge is a step toward privatization and an attack on their labor rights.
