Rescuers have been struggling to reach more than 100 missing people on Indonesia’s main island of Java.

Torrential rain triggered a landslide that buried houses and destroyed an entire village.

Α flood of mud and water poured down this mountainside as rescuers, police and soldiers searched for signs of the missing.

At least 11 people were killed when more than one hundred homes were swept away by mud gushing into Jemblung village in the centre of the island.

It was the second landslide in several days on the densly populated island.

Hundreds of people have been sent to shelters, however Indonesia’s national disaster agency said the evacuation route has been damaged. Further hampering rescue efforts has been the lack of a telephone signal.

Landslides and mudslides are common in Indonesia during the monsoon season .. that usually runs from October to April.
